We profess the Catholic Church's teaching that Jesus Christ instituted seven sacraments as a necessary means for our salvation. The sacraments are visible signs that give us the grace of the Holy Spirit and unite us with Jesus Christ. Each sacrament nourishes and strengthens the faith of its recipients. As gifts entrusted by Jesus Christ to the Church, the sacraments provide us with a bond of unity and express our communion of faith.
The seven sacraments are often listed in the following categories:
The sacraments af initiation are Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. The sacraments of healing are Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick. The sacraments of mission are Marriage and Holy Orders.
