As women, many of us feel the ever-present temptation to be self-critical and focus on all the ways in which we are not living as the perfect daughter, wife, mother, sister, friend; the list goes on! But Campbell is able to gently yet boldly remind us of the truth, as only a real friend often can. In each chapter, she shows her reader an example of a saint (and one heretic) who struggled with a particular vice related to perfectionism before unpacking how this figure overcame those tempting inclinations and used their related experiences to build up God's kingdom. Ultimately, Campbell accomplishes the greatest feat which is reminding her audience that God is there with us in the struggle, rooting for us (not against us) in our trials, and is always loving us and calling us to Himself amidst our many weaknesses. Whether you are a mother or a single gal just coming into adult life, I would invite all women to be freed through this read!
