Have you given much thought about who the man was that God chose to be His earthly step-father? Like how old he was? Many of the statues and art of St Joseph depict him as an older person but Mother Angelica, who started EWTN, says “Old men don’t walk to Egypt!”. What does being a ‘just man’ mean (as St Matthew described him). How long did St Joseph live? These and many other questions are answered in this book. While the main goal of the book is to offer a means to make a consecration to St Joseph(similar to consecrations to Mary that many of us have completed), it is filled with answers to these questions and more. For many centuries there was not much focus on understanding who St Joseph was; after all there are no quotes attributed to him in Scripture and there’s only a couple mentions of him at all. But saints and other leaders in the Church (St Teresa of Avila, St John of the Cross and Blessed William Chaminade) had tremendous faith and affinity to St Joseph. Before Vatican II, there was no mention of St Joseph in the Mass but since then, his name has been added to all four Eucharistic prayers. A couple years ago, Pope Francis declared a Year of St Joseph.
With our world and families in need of spiritual fathers (or fathers in general, as half of kids today grow up without a father), now is the time for you to pick up this book and learn more about St Joseph and start your own consecration to him. Begin the St. Joseph Consecration this week so that you can finish on his Feast Day, March 19th!
