Behold This Heart: St. Francis de Sales and Devotion to the Sacred Heart by Fr. Thomas Dailey, O.S.F

The devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is by far my favorite devotion.  As for devotions to the saints, St. Francis de Sales is absolutely my favorite saint.  Little did I know that the two have a great connection.  Though the devotion to the Sacred Heart was revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque  more than 50 years after his death, St. Francis de Sales’ particular spirituality and the charism of the religious order he founded—the Order of the Visitation—were great instruments in the devotion’s spread.  Fr. Dailey’s book acts as an excellent introduction to the spirituality of St. Francis de Sales, his life, and the lives of St. Jane Frances de Chantal and St. Margaret Mary.  Accompanying his text is a fairly good novena in the Salesian mode and many other devotions to the Sacred Heart.  I recommend this book for anyone who is hoping to learn more about the Sacred Heart, and I hope you find great benefit as I have in a friendship with St. Francis de Sales.
