Catholic Social Teaching: What is its History
This series will seek to create a Scriptural context for the understanding of the responsibility of believers to worship God, look after each other and attend to the real needs of the people around them.
We will move from Scripture into the experience of the Church in the early days and its expansion into a universal presence within the confines of the Old Roman Empire and, eventually, beyond. We will follow the Church into the experience of the rise of cities and reemergence of trade and mercantile life in the West. The series will conclude with an examination of the emergence of Capitalism into the 16th Century and how ideas of social justice adapted to the newer challenges.
Presented by Msgr. Frank Lane and live streamed from St. Cecilia each Tuesday evening at 7 PM on the St. Cecilia YouTube channel for four consecutive Tuesdays beginning on May 12 and ending on June 2.
