"Many of you probably receive several e-mails daily (or hourly!) tempting you with all sorts of things you must have. Every few days, one of the e-mails I receive is a review of recent books. The one-line sell of this book really caught my eye — “the preeminent spiritual leader explains why we must — and how we can — make the world safer, fairer, and healthier for all people now.” Although this book was written in the midst of the COVID crisis, Pope Francis explores what COVID can teach us about how to handle upheaval of any kind whether it be in our own lives or in the world at large. He cites the example of three crises in his life, and the way those changed him for the better. The open candor and honest writing style of Pope Francis makes this book very easy-to-read. So much of what he experienced is similar to what many of us go through in our lives. Pope Francis also offers some wise and surprising observations on unconventional thinking — inspiring words which gave me much to ponder. Pope Francis concludes by reminding us that a Christian’s first duty is to serve others, especially the poor and the marginalized, just as Jesus did. Not only did this book cause me to dream, to take time to meditate and contemplate what the future may be like. More importantly, it caused me to think about and plan what I can do, in my own small way, to make a better future."
