When my husband and I first got engaged, we decided that we wanted to create a list of books to read together before we were married. Having been fans of Brant Pitre's Marian class on Formed, we knew this book would be rich with scriptural insights that would help enrich our prayer life and practice of lectio divina. We were right! Two moments I especially loved in Jesus the Bridegroom were when Pitre talks about the scene with the Samaritan woman at the well being a "proposal" scene of types, and when he elaborates on who Mary is theologically referring to when she observes at the Wedding at Cana "they have no wine." I would recommend this book to anyone who loves scriptural exegesis and especially for those preparing for marriage. What better way to dive into the free, total, faithful, and fruitful dimensions of the sacrament than by looking to the True Bridegroom as a guide!
